Our Mission

Home Makers of Hope (HMOH) provides essential furnishings and household items to families and individuals struggling with poverty. Furnishing a home is expensive for anyone, but especially for those suffering hardships or returning from homelessness.  After paying for basic needs such as food, rent and utilities, there is usually little left to buy beds or furniture. We make a home by providing linens and beds to sleep on, fully equipping their kitchens where families can have meals together and decorating living areas to encourage family time.

History

Pamela McMenamy Stamey, founder of Home Makers of Hope, Inc.—a faith-based ministry committed to furnishing homes for low-income families—remembers the first family she helped in December 2008. While working on a church project to provide clothing to families in need, Pam received a request for three twin beds for a family of five. “I kept wondering how five people would sleep in three beds,” she recalled. The mother explained that her 11-year-old and 9-year-old daughters shared one bed, the 7-year-old and 5-year-old sons shared another, and she slept alone in the third.

Realizing the family's needs extended far beyond beds, Pam visited their apartment to assess the situation firsthand. She quickly enlisted a friend and rallied support from her network to gather donations. Within a week, they delivered bunk beds for the boys, twin beds for the girls, a queen-size bedroom set for the mother, a living room sofa, entertainment center, TV, kitchen table, and fully stocked kitchen and bathroom essentials.

That first act of service marked the beginning of Home Makers of Hope. Since then, the organization has furnished homes and provided much-needed comfort to thousands of families in need.

Who We Are and

What We Do

We are a faith-based organization and our volunteers live by the motto, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”  Philippians 4:13.  HMOH picks up furniture and household items from generous donors.  We store the items in our warehouse where our volunteers sort and organize the donations.  We build partnerships with local agencies, churches and schools whose case workers refer families and individuals to us.  Our family liaisons visit homes and complete a checklist of needs.  Our volunteers meet in our warehouse to select the items and deliver them to the homes.

Home Decorating / Setup

Let the fun begin!!  HMOH volunteers – family liaisons, decorators, drivers, movers – collaborate to do this important work.  We go to the home, greet the family and begin setup, which is so vital to our work.  We put the furniture in place, setup beds, make the beds, hang pictures, hang window and shower curtains, set the table, and place decorative pieces.  We try to choose things to make the children happy… Superheroes, dinosaurs, mermaids, princesses, Disney…whatever we can find in the warehouse.

The heart of our ministry is prayer.  Before we leave the home, we always pray, asking for blessings on the family and the home.

There is nothing more rewarding than helping to change a person’s life.  Watching children’s faces as they receive their very own bed is a true blessing.  If you are interested in getting involved with our ministry, please contact us.

We'd love to have you on our team!
